Modern Retail had a lovely chat with Eleanor at her shop, Marby and Elm, in Clerkenwell, London. With novelty designs and a beautiful interior, it’s the only place you’ll need to go for your stationery and cards!
MR: How do you aim to stand out as a brand?
E: It’s a combination of old techniques and contemporary colours, slogans and wit. We love merging traditional aesthetics and modern simplicity.
MR: How would you sum up your target customer?
E: Our target or typical customer is a female, usually in their 30’s, with no children. She’ll be independent and all our customers like funny, quirky items and have great personalities!
MR: Why should people shop with you?
E: To keep independent shops alive! Keep artisans in work!
MR: What do you aim to do differently to your competitors?
E: We have a very personal one-on-one appearance. We pride ourselves on customer service, and we take an active interest in every customer.
MR: What challenges do you face as a business, and how do you aim to overcome them?
E: I enjoy challenges, like designing new products and slogans for example. I really enjoy working on coming up with new ideas for pads and planners.
MR: How do you use technology/media/ecommerce to improve your offering?
E: We are on social media and we have an online site which we make sales through, too!
MR: What do you love about your work?
E: I love meeting new people and having a laugh in the shop with everyone!
