Facebook live shopping to be shut down

Facebook Live Shopping

Facebook has announced that it will shut down the Facebook live shopping feature from the 1st of October, focusing on reels instead.

Why is Facebook live shopping shutting down?

It appears that consumers did not take to the platform’s live shopping features. In fact, unified customer platform, Klaviyo, revealed that 56% of the UK have never purchased from social media sites’ in-app shopping features, while 77.7% of users still prefer to use their social media platforms for connecting with friends, reading news and keeping on top of trends.

After the 1st October 2022, users will be unable to arrange of host new live shopping events on the platform. They will still be able to use Facebook Live to broadcast live events, however they won’t be able to create product playlists or tag products in Facebook Live videos.

Following smaller trials and beta tests, Facebook’s live stream video shopping feature was made available two years ago. The feature was introduced to provide brands and retailers with an interactive way to market their products, reach larger audiences and engage with viewers.
