The Baby Cot Shop Store Opening

The Baby Cot Shop

Modern Retail was delighted to be invited by Toks, owner of The Baby Cot Shop, to the opening of her first brick-and-mortar store in Chelsea.

Ideally situated on the King’s Road, the picturesque store’s inviting lights and beautifully decorated window display immediately captivate your eye. It’s almost impossible to miss. Upon entering the shop you immediately feel at home in the tranquil environment, an atmosphere that a new mother would find appealing and something she would want to be reflected in her own child’s nursery.

The soft colour of the walls enhances the murals, some of which feature Punkin and Patch, the two little characters who were born from Toks’ time in the USA. They playfully hang around the store surrounded by wall art and beautifully-painted words, designed by a Belgian artist called Dominique Zanotto, who we met at the opening. Toks found one of the biggest challenges in designing the shop was picking the colours for the walls. She’d had a specific vision and colour that she was determined to achieve, something which, when she found it, was worth it and is definitely an asset to the overall serenity of the shop.

The Baby Cot Shop has beautifully customisable items; pictures and accessories can be embellished with a child’s date of birth, name etc – a perfect way to remember special events and milestones. The environmentally-friendly fabrics used are shipped to order from the French company Stof, who are aiming to supply more UK stores. The baskets and cots are perfect for a baby’s nursery, with soft, calming colours – something new parents will definitely appreciate!

Toks explains, “having had 4 children of my own, I feel I can really understand a mother’s requirements both professionally and personally. When an expecting parent comes into the store I will walk them around the shop and help them decide on the right items that would best suit their child, their wants, even their room colours.”

Toks was surprised at how smooth she found the transition from ecommerce to a physical store. Although, not without hard work of course – lots of extra hours in the build-up and a very long night the evening before the launch!

The Baby Cot Shop’s atmosphere and colour scheme is a great reflection of Toks’ website. She’s hoping in the year ahead to encourage many of her website users to visit the store in person. This was a key motivation behind her move to bricks-and-mortar: “I wanted to have the opportunity to have a chat with people face-to-face, have them feel the products and really fall in love with their potential items, instead of just seeing the products online.”

Being so close to the Chelsea hospital (and to central London), the future looks very bright. With private viewings on a Monday, for one-on-one advice and information, parents, can get a helping hand in creating the perfect nursery for their child. The store is also open for walk-in Tuesday to Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 12pm to 4pm. Don’t just take our word for it – have a look yourself!
