Modern Retail talks to Martine Satterthwaite, owner of “Little Bags Of”, a special gift for letting someone know that you care. They are perfect for any occasion and in a range of colours!Love Bag Of

MR: How do you aim to stand out as a brand?

MS: We aim to stand out by providing gifts for everyone. Our little bags vary so much that vary so much that we believe that there is something for everyone. From small children who are becoming a big brother or sister right to people celebrating a special birthday. The variety we do is so large is caters for everyone!

MR: How would you sum up your target customer?

MS: As before, we target everyone. The customer would generally be an adult buying for a child (although our products are not toys!) or an adult buying for a friend or family member. We also see children buying these bags too as a gift for a parent or grandparent.

MR: Why should people shop with you?

MS: Because we are unique. We are reasonably priced and affordable for everyone.

MR: What do you want to do differently to your competitors?

MS: We want to expand more and be better known that we already are. We want to do bulk orders for special occasions like weddings and baby showers.

MR: What challenges do you face as a business, and how do you aim to overcome them?

MS: Quiet periods and lack of sales. Every company has quiet periods but we aim to overcome them by advertising more and offering special deals.

MR: How do you use technology/media/ecommerce to improve your offering?

MS: I use my iPhone or iPad to update social media (Facebook and Twitter). I use a PC or laptop to update our website. I regularly do networking on Facebook to increase our page likes and popularity.

MR: What do you love about your work/business/brand?

MS: I love that it is unique but so varied. We cater for everything.

MR: What advantages/disadvantages does your location bring?

MS: My location is home based in Essex which is a good location as it close to London. Working at home can be a pain due to space but hopefully in the future I will have a bigger space – or even a shop possibly!?

MR: What are your growth aims for the next 12 months?

MS: Ideally, rent a shop to showcase my bags. If not maybe do some stalls at events as well as online retail.

MR: What advice would you give to a new retail start-up based on your experience?

MS: Think about what you want to do of how to do it. Weigh up the pros and cons and when you are up and running – advertise
